‘Sartori Bear’ is saving bears from landfill and assisting new E-Commerce project

Photo:– This is ‘Sartori Bear’ – he loves pickle and jam sandwiches (in the same sandwich); he tries to save as many other Teds as possible from the dreaded land of Landfill; his favourite pass time is sniffing out forgotten treasure from donations, he then cleans them up, photographs them with his Grandfathers 1930s box brownie, and lists them on tedbay!  He has customers all over the world including Bruno Bear in Borneo, Cynthia Bear in Sydney, Fritz Hound in Hungary and Davina Doll in Denmark!

 

Paul Sartori Hospice at Home has invested in a new e-commerce project to diversify their income stream.  Paul Sartori currently have 11 shops throughout the county and are now progressing with this exciting challenge of raising additional funds for Pembrokeshire’s only Hospice at Home Service.

Soon to be officially released, Paul Sartori have recently prepared figures for their financial year 2016 to 2017, and they have seen: a 25% increase on direct service provision, 17% increase in number of hours care, 23% increase in complementary therapy and a staggering 38% increase in counselling and bereavement support.  The charity has recognised that these increases need to be supported to ensure services remain free.  The sales generated through the retail shops at Paul Sartori currently contribute in excess of 40% of the income needed to support all services.

A new member to the Paul Sartori team has been recruited to support this project.  Simon Reason, who has been appointed as the E-Commerce Manager has passion and drive for the project, stating “Every day, generous local supporters donate an amazing array of valuable items. E-Commerce will enable us to show and sell some of these amazing Charity Shop Treasure Finds, to both National & International audiences”.  Simon’s previous role with the charity was a Warehouse & Distribution Centre Van Driver, so he is well aware of the importance of the charity in the community through its services and also retail support.

Simon is not only listing exciting items, with the help of “Sartori Bear” on ebay, facebook and other online portals but also busy looking for volunteers and together with Caroline White, the Volunteer Coordinator for Paul Sartori, they are appealing to people who have an interest in antiques and memorabilia, taking pictures, experience on social media platforms and want to help this Pembrokeshire based charity.  “We are looking for all different ages, from all different background”, mentioned Caroline adding, “Volunteer training and ongoing support will be offered to successful candidates”.  Caroline urges anyone interested in any volunteering, to contact her directly on 01437 763223 or email her carolinewhite@paulsartori.org.

Fun & Frivolity is promised at this year’s Mid-Summer Mayhem Weekend

The Mid-Summer Mayhem Family Fun Weekend this year will be held the first weekend of the summer holidays, 21st and 22nd July at The Plough Inn, Sageston all in aid of the Paul Sartori Foundation, Pembrokeshire’s only hospice at home service.  Last year, this fun-packed weekend raised just over £1,000.00 and Paul Sartori are promising even more fantastic fun this year!

This event promises lots for the whole family and will deliver in bucket loads; including family fun and games; a fun auction with fantastic prizes.  The theme this year is 80s with great music – don’t forget to wear your best fancy dress!  A car boot sale, bouncy castle, indoor stalls and kids disco will also await.  Camping is also available from ££7.50 per night.

Visitors to the event will also get the opportunity to see a star attraction – wonderful steam engines to be brought along by Richard Scourfield.  These have proved very popular and have been a great sight and endured great curiosity from all ages.

“This will be the third year that we have held this event at The Plough Inn and it is gaining great support from locals and visitors alike”, said Toni Dorkings, Community Fundraiser from the Paul Sartori Foundation, “There is no admission charge but donations are of course welcome, and all funds raised go back into supporting our services”, added Toni.

Paul Sartori welcomes QinetiQ to new Head Office

Staff from QinetiQ who work at the MOD Pendine Range visited the Paul Sartori Foundation’s new Head Office at Paul Sartori House, Winch Lane Haverfordwest on Wednesday 31st May to cement the relationship that has been formed following a corporate charity nomination by employees.

“Thank you to all the employees at the MOD site in Pendine who voted for us,” said Judith Williams, Funding & Projects Coordinator at Paul Sartori “We are ever so grateful that they voted to support the Paul Sartori Foundation and their support will make a real difference to people living in the final stages of a life limiting illness.”

Staff from Paul Sartori were welcomed in April to the site at Pendine where they were privileged to have received a tour and presentation on their operations.

Thank you to Judith and Sandra for organising the visit, it was great to meet the clinical staff to hear about their experiences from the field and to meet some of the non-clinical team in their new office setting. We felt there was a resounding theme of empowerment throughout the Hospice team and a conscientious commitment to delivering the best services to the people that you support.

 (Speaking on a personal note) It has been a privilege to fundraise for this wonderful charity and together with my colleagues at QinetiQ, we look forward to continue supporting Paul Sartori as our local Charity of the Year partner.”

Due to the recent Head Office move, a reciprocal visit was offered a few months later for QinetiQ to visit Paul Sartori House where a tour included the Equipment Store department, showing the massive amount of equipment that gets loaned to local people; a visit to the newly equipped Complementary Therapy and a visit to the vast Sartori Warehouse and Distribution centre which supplies all 11 charity shops in the county with donated items from the public.

“It was a pleasure to welcome Dan and Mel from QinetiQ and show them around.  They have a very exciting fundraising events scheduled this year, which also coincides with our 35th year anniversary celebrations,” explained Sandra Dade, Charity Manager, adding “We look forward to developing a successful partnership that is mutually beneficial and delivers a real change to ensure excellent care to our patients.”

The Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service provides a range of services to people living in the final stages of a life limiting illness, including home nursing care, equipment loan, complementary therapy, bereavement and counselling support, clinical nurse specialist in palliative care, physiotherapy, advance care planning and training.

The services provided by the Paul Sartori Hospice at Home Service enable people in the later stages of any life limiting illness to be cared for at home with dignity, independence, pain free and surrounded by those they hold most dear.

  • is particularly keen to dispel the belief that it is a cancer charity as this deters people with other life-limiting conditions from contacting the Paul Sartori Foundation (approximately 35% have a non-cancer diagnosis)
  • operates an open referral system with over 15% of referrals from patients, family and friends.  The biggest referral group is District Nurses, followed by Palliative Care Clinical Nurse Specialists and hospital staff

Port continues to support Paul Sartori Foundation

Visitors to the Paul Sartori Foundation’s new Haverfordwest premises will receive a warm welcome at a new reception area with thanks to the Port of Milford Haven and the Wolfson Foundation.

A successful application to the Port’s Community Fund, combined with an award of £90,000 from the Wolfson Foundation, has helped fund the refurbishment of the charity’s head office main reception and separate counselling and complementary reception areas at Winch Lane.

“This joint funding enabled the charity to purchase reception furniture that will really benefit visitors to our new Head Office and help ensure they are welcomed into a comfortable, professional environment,” said Judith Williams, Funding & Projects Coordinator from Paul Sartori Hospice at Home.

Celebrating their 35th anniversary this year – the Paul Sartori Foundation offers specialised, supportive care and advice for those in the later stages of any life-limiting illness and is the Port’s employee-voted Charitable Cause of the Year for 2017.  The new facilities will ensure continued support to the charity’s visitors and those who need help.

Anna Malloy, PR & Communications Manager at the Port said “The new premises at Winch Lane provide a warm and comforting environment for visitors to Paul Sartori, many of whom will be suffering from illness or grieving the loss of a loved one.  We are therefore very pleased to have been able to support them through our Community Fund.”
